In this 36-hour course, Electric Vehicle Technology and Service, you will build on your previous understanding of conventional vehicle systems to safely and confidently diagnose and service the most common high-voltage electric vehicles. Get six hours of self-paced online learning in preparation for 30 hours of intensive hands-on training with our expert industry-trained instructors at SAIT’s automotive training facility in Calgary. Topics covered include electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle battery construction, fuel cells, electric motor controllers, inverters and auxiliary accessories. To take this course, you must be a certified Automotive Service Technician Journeyperson, or Heavy Equipment Technician (Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic – Off Road or Truck and Transport Mechanic). Receive a SAITMicro digital badge if you meet the specified earning criteria for this microcredential.

You will demonstrate your knowledge acquisition through online module quizzes, practical shop activities, online and in-class participation and by completing a supervised final written exam during class time. Successful completion of the online training component is required before starting the hands-on shop training. Punctuality and attendance for all shop sessions on campus are required for a safe and optimal learning experience.
This course qualifies for the SAITMicro badge. Students who successfully complete this course with a final grade of B- (70%) or higher will earn a microcredential and receive a shareable digital badge
