This course covers how refinishing products affect the environment and how to minimize those effects. Course content includes safe handling, storage, and disposal methods of products containing volatile organic compounds (VOC) as regulated by GVRD Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1296, 2019 and GVRD Air Quality Management Bylaw No. 1086, 2008.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand air quality and human health
  • Compare air quality in Metro Vancouver
  • Identify role of Metro Vancouver
  • List air contaminants associated with automotive refinishing
  • Describe Greater Vancouver Regional District’s initial Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1086, 2008
  • Apply Metro Vancouver’s updated regulatory requirements of Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1296, 2019

Environmental Impact Reduction: Participants learn to manage and reduce VOC emissions, which are harmful pollutants. By minimizing these emissions during automotive refinishing/painting, technicians contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
