This course builds on and provides updates on GVRD Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1296, 2019, and GVRD Air Quality Management Bylaw No. 1086, 2008. It examines past applications of the regulation and best practices for implementing it in collision repair shops. Participants in this course should have the foundational knowledge of air contaminants as covered in the prerequisite VOC-Clearing the Air course.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain best practices to implement Metro Vancouver Automotive Refinishing Regulations to control VOCs
  • Show practices of tracking VOC material sent for disposal and recycling
  • Discuss how different materials are tracked for VOC contaminants
  • Interpret Greater Vancouver Regional District initial Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1086, 2008
  • Apply Metro Vancouver’s updated regulatory requirements of Automotive Refinishing Emission Regulation Bylaw No. 1296, 2019

Environmental Impact Reduction: Participants learn to manage and reduce VOC emissions, which are harmful pollutants. By minimizing these emissions during automotive refinishing/painting, technicians contribute to cleaner air and a healthier environment.

Regulatory Compliance: Understanding and implementing best practices for VOC management ensures adherence to environmental regulations, supporting the broader goals of sustainability and pollution control in the automotive industry.
