This microcredential focuses on data collection technologies as they relate to GIS.

What will you learn?

You will explore concepts of relational databases and data collection platforms. You will develop skills using various data collection systems, ranging from citizen science-based, freely available systems to industry-standard commercial platforms and work on a GIS problem that requires a hands-on data collection solution and present findings to the class. In addition, you will also explore the pathways to drone operation certifications and becoming a GIS Professional (GISP).

How does this prepare you for the low carbon economy?

You will learn about GIS technology which plays a critical role in the collection, management, visualization, analysis and interpretation of location-based environmental data (e.g., air/water quality, ecosystem/biodiversity, population, energy use, transportation data, etc.).
