This training program is designed to equip energy auditors with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to effectively assess and improve energy efficiency on farms. Participants will learn to identify energy conservation measures, conduct basic energy assessments, and provide actionable recommendations to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhance farm resilience. The program supports Canada’s net-zero future and addresses the unique energy challenges in agriculture.

Funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program.

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Complete an energy assessment for primary agricultural producers.
  • Develop a plan with prioritized recommendations and predicted cost savings.

Learners will be assessed on their ability to conduct a comprehensive energy assessment and develop a well-justified Energy Management Plan. This includes identifying and recommending Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) that are tailored to the specific needs, priorities, and operational impacts of a farm. The assessment for this microcredential will require learners to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Perform a farm energy assessment.
  • Compose an Energy Assessment and Management document including all required assessment components and recommendations, financial considerations, and assessor notes.
  • Justify the selection of energy saving strategies and projects that align best with farmers’ priorities and offer the best ROI.

This training is designed to equip energy auditors with practical skills to assess and improve energy use on farms—through identifying conservation measures, conducting assessments, and recommending efficiency-boosting strategies. It embodies a vision of building a clean economy by delivering microcredentials that are short, flexible, and employer-driven, enabling workers to quickly adapt to emerging low-carbon opportunities. This microcredential directly supports Canada’s transition toward a low-carbon economy.
