This instructor-guided course is ideal for process operations personnel with experience in process manufacturing industries, including operators, engineers, and maintenance trades. It’s also a valuable course for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of carbon capture technologies and their implications for Canada to meet netzero goals. Complete the prerequisite Introduction to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and this course to earn SAIT’s Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Certificate of Completion. Receive a SAITMicro digital badge if you meet the specified earning criteria for this microcredential.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  • Describe the fundamental characteristics and properties of CO2 and implications for CCS deployment 
  • Describe current and emerging regulations that impact the deployment of CCS 
  • Describe the different carbon capture technologies and processes and their technical readiness, benefits and limitations 
  • Outline sector-specific applications for CCS including strengths and challenges 
  • Provide an overview of post-combustion carbon capture technology and processes 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the selection and operation of equipment used and their specifications and parameters

You will demonstrate your skills and knowledge acquisition through unit quizzes and written assignments. This online course is structured and guided. All coursework must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date. 

This course prepares you for Canada’s low-carbon workforce by providing a deep understanding of CO2 properties and their implications for carbon capture and storage (CCS). You will learn about current and emerging CCS regulations to ensure compliance and safety and gain insights into carbon capture technologies, their readiness, benefits, and limitations. You will also explore post-combustion capture strategies and develop skills in selecting and operating equipment for optimal performance.
