Training Description

In this 40-hour online course, Design of Carbon Capture Infrastructureyou will learn about carbon capture process conceptualization and considerations for techno-economic objectives and constraints, process, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation design, and life cycle assessmentThis instructor-guided course is ideal for engineering and design personnel who want to apply engineering design principles and standards to designing post-combustion CO2 capture processes and processing units. Complete the prerequisite Introduction to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and this course to earn SAIT’s Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Certificate of Completion. Receive a SAITMicro digital badge if you meet the specified earning criteria for this microcredential.

Language

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the different carbon capture technologies and processes, and their technical readiness, benefits, and limitations
  • Outline sector-specific applications for CCS, including strengths and weaknesses
  • Describe the components, objectives and constraints associated with post-combustion carbon capture processing
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to develop and document capture process design work packages
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to develop and document related mechanical design work packages
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to document related electrical and instrumentation design requirements
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how to conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) for the carbon capture process and use outputs of LCA to inform and improve carbon capture processing

You will demonstrate your skill and knowledge acquisition through unit quizzes and written assignments. This online course is structured and guided. All coursework must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date.

This course qualifies for the SAITMicro badge. Students who successfully complete this course with a final grade of A- (80%) or higher will earn a microcredential and receive a shareable digital badge.

This course equips you for Canada’s low-carbon workforce by providing in-depth knowledge of carbon capture technologies, their readiness, benefits, and limitations. You’ll learn to identify sector-specific applications for CCS, analyzing strengths and weaknesses in various contexts. With a strong understanding of post-combustion carbon capture processing, you’ll be able to develop detailed design work packages, including mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation aspects. Additionally, your skills in conducting life cycle assessments (LCA) will help you optimize carbon capture processes for efficiency and sustainability, positioning you as a key contributor to Canada’s low-carbon future.
