Training Description

The Role of GIS Workflow and Asset Management (GIS505) microcredential provides learners with practical, industry-relevant skills to design and implement GIS-based asset management solutions. Participants will gain hands-on experience building geodatabases, configuring data layers for asset tracking, and integrating photos and other field-based information to improve data accuracy. Using ArcGIS mobile and web applications, learners will evaluate and apply the most effective tools to solve real organizational challenges. The training emphasizes both technical and professional competencies: designing relational databases, selecting appropriate asset data types, and applying project management principles to structure and deliver solutions. Learners will also strengthen their communication skills by developing and presenting a GIS-based asset management solution through a live demo. Learners will be equipped to streamline workflows, optimize asset tracking, and provide data-driven recommendations that support efficient decision-making in organizations.

Skills and Competencies

  • Create a geodatabase and design relationships in it
  • Configure data layers so photos can be attached for asset-based information collection
  • Select appropriate data types for assets
  • Evaluate software tools in the ArcGIS system, including mobile and web apps, and apply appropriate tools to solve an
  • organizational need
  • Develop solutions for asset management issues and present them orally
  • Apply the basic principles of project management to scenarios
  • Present a solution with a demo in front of the class

The Role of GIS in Workflow and Asset Management prepares learners for the low-carbon economy by building skills to optimize energy use and support data-driven sustainability initiatives.

Using tools like ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Dashboards, learners can map and manage assets, track retrofit projects, and monitor energy performance. The course also covers integrating GIS with asset management systems to enable lifecycle tracking, condition-based maintenance, and energy impact analysis.

These skills support more efficient resource allocation and informed decision-making, contributing directly to reduced emissions and improved environmental performance.
