In this 15-hour online course, Introduction to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), you will explore the technologies that make up the CCS value chain, their applications, and the use of CCS in Canadian industry. Learn about CCS’s role in advancing sustainable energy, emerging CO2 capture uses, benefits, challenges, and the socio-economic impacts of developing Canada’s CCS sector. This instructor-guided course is ideal for anyone interested in CCS, particularly energy services workers, engineers, geoscience professionals, operators, technologists, and tradespeople. Complete this prerequisite course and at least one of seven electives to earn SAIT’s Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Certificate of Completion. Receive a SAITMicro digital badge if you meet the earning criteria for this micro-credential.  

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to: 

  • Recognize Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies and describe how they fit into the value chain 
  • Recognize how carbon from CO2 is being utilized in Canada and globally, today and in the future 
  • Describe current and future usages for CO2  
  • Recognize the role that CCS can play in Canada to decarbonize and achieve net-zero goals 
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of the socio-economic impacts that accompany the development of Canada’s CCS sector

You will demonstrate your skills and knowledge acquisition through unit quizzes and written assignments. This online course is structured and guided. All coursework must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date. 

This course qualifies for the SAITMicro badge. Students who successfully complete this course with a final grade of A- (80%) or higher will earn a microcredential and receive a shareable digital badge.
